Feed Extrusion
Extrusion belongs to feed heat treatments and it is the most widely used method. It belongs to HTST (high temperature short time) methods, i.e. it is very gentle to the processed feed.
Extrusion effects:
- preparation of feed with excellent dietetic properties
- increased digestibility of individual feed components
- decreased anti-nutritional substance contents
- exclusion of occurrence of undesirable micro-organisms
- extension of feed storage time
Extrusion manner:
Dry extrusion
Dry extrusion dry extrusion is a process, where the processed material is affected by heat and pressure. This process is suitable for materials containing more than 15 % of oil, such as soy, rape pressings, etc.

Wet extrusion
Wet extrusion differs from dry extrusion by adding humidity (steam) to the heat and pressure of dry extrusion. This process has a much wider use. The processed material does not have to contain any fat. It is used for processing cereals, legumes, oilseeds, corn, etc.
